We are grateful as we draw the curtains of 2017. Like every other year, it had its ups and downs but the downs have not deterred us; we aimed for success and achieved it. Our borderless motivational train took you, our dear readers on a journey to inspire and motivate as we shared our stories of various individuals from different walks of life. These stories helped us understand more that challenges are for everyone but succeeding depends on our attitude and how far we are willing to push the boundaries of our comfort zones.
We thank those of you who responded to our 2017 end of year polls to objectively find out which of our 2017 feature articles struck the most cord. We are humbled by the engagement of everyone with our e-motivational platform poll this year. It is indeed a tall order to choose one from the very motivational experiences we have the privilege of bringing forth and we thank all of you who participated.
It was fascinating to find two out of our respondents whose responses simply blew our team members away. The first one stated “they were so many great stories I am unable to decide on any favourite” while the second person’s response was “ Team LR, this exam is too hard….how much una go pay me?” Of course, these two were excluded from the data collated to enable our end of year reflection by our readers however, they were inspiring answers in their own right. These two along with all other responses are answers that made the team, led by the editor in charge of the end of year reflections Omo Agbonwanegbe-Okogwu, to brainstorm on what to make of 2018. The answers are evolving our 2018 plans….but back to the reflections of 2017, you, our dear readers, have chosen your top 5 stories for 2017 that have inspired and motivated you the most. We bring you quotes from each of these stories and encourage you to click on each link for a refresher of the highlights chosen by you that made the motivational difference in 2017.
Interestingly, we had a tie at the 5th place; two stories chosen by you. They were:
5.WITH TEACHERS LIKE JULIANA IKENEBOMEH, WHY SHOULD A TEACHERS REWARD BE IN HEAVEN
“In all of these times, despite the challenges of me being a working mother, I never for once thought that not excelling at the work I do was an option. I always sought out ways to help my students bring out the best in them. I always believed that there was something unique in every child that would flourish once given the enabling environment. People learn at different rates, a phenomenon teachers should always be mindful of”.
5.WHO IS GIVING THE WORLD’S BEST MEDICINE? MEET EDDIE KADI
“For those men and women out there, boys and girls coming up, who would like to walk through the entertainment path, my message is that once you can dream it, and that dream appears impossible, then, that is when you can do it! Anything that looks scary has a way of attracting truly spirited fighters. All you need to do is attempt it. Once you attempt it, the rest is history – you are on your way to making possible, anything that initially looked impossible”.
At the 4th place was
4.TRANSFORMING OUR COMMUNITIES FROM WITHIN – LET THERE BE LIGHT BY JOHN MAGIRO
“My team and I desire to see each and every household lit up with clean, reliable and affordable energy. We want to see a world where even the rural poor are empowered to alter their realities. We want to see children read at night. They do not need to suffer like we did, using candles and kerosene lamps………..I alone cannot change the world. Change will not come if we wait for some other person, or if we wait for some other time. We are the change that we seek and we must leave our mark in making the world a better place. There is light now in our little village but more villages need light; and together, we generate it”.
3.DIAMONDS WERE ONCE DIRTY – MINING HUMAN DIAMONDS BY MALLENCE BART-WILLIAMS
“I encourage those of us reading this out there, to believe in ourselves no matter what anybody else says. Whenever you find that people strongly object to what you believe in or a project you work on, and then know that you are most likely on the right track”.
2.RENEWING AJCITY – RIPPLES AND WAVES, JOIN WOME AND THE EARTH ANGELS
“…on to the herculean task of revamping their young lives. Was it easy? Absolutely not! Did they fight me all the way? Oh yes! Every step of the way! Even their unruly guardians and elder siblings whom these children were mirroring in every way (stealing, smoking and or selling marijuana, cutting school promiscuity, you name it, they did it) fought me as well. Sometimes they’d just show up at our weekly meetings and drag the kids out! Saying I was wasting their time and mine and calling me all kinds of names…”
At number 1, most loved by the respondents was
1.I AM A SURVIVOR BY IJEOMA UGBELASE
“After my experience with Breast Cancer, I have come to realize that we can help save the lives of many other people when we take action. It does not matter whatever we do, in whatever way and no matter how small, all that matters is that we take action today because, ‘tomorrow may never come’. So, I am taking action now. I am organizing a charity fundraising fashion show with the aim of raising awareness as well as fundraising for selected charities in the forefront of informing people about how to prevent and detect Breast Cancer early while also supporting those who already have it”.
One look at the trend of the kind of stories selected by you shows it is the stories that highlight our shared humanity that people have connected with the most. This points to the fact that despite all the negative news we hear daily and all the ‘apparent lack of good in the world’, deep down, we still treasure our daily human challenges which is what unites us. We thank all those who collaborate with us and those who are yet to collaborate with us. Most especially, we thank you our readers for without all of you, there is no us.
We are geared for a more inspirationally adventurous and fulfilling 2018 on our “borderless motivational space” as the Loretta Reveals Team brings the determination, the focus and hard work of varied individuals to the fore – it is the platform that will continue exposing the ‘iceberg nature of success’. As you stay with us for your regular doses of all things motivational, we wish you happy celebrations and a fulfilling new year.
“A New Year is a launch pad to step out of that comfy zone now, become uncomfortable, become a believer in you, embrace being a disruptor of the staus quo, because it is only out of the chaos, that the new improved you will emerge” (Loretta Ogboro-Okor, 2017)
